Berhentilah Sebentar Untuk..

Seorang lelaki duduk di stesen metro di Washington DC dan mula bermain biola, ia adalah sebuah pagi yang dingin pada bulan Januari. Dia bermain enam helai Bach selama kira-kira 45 minit.
Pada waktu itu, keadaan sangat ribuk, dianggarkan seramai 1,100 orang telah melalui stesen tersebut, kebanyakan mereka dalam perjalanan ke tempat kerja. Tiga minit berlalu, dan seorang lelaki dalam umur pertengahan menyedari ada seorang pemuzik sedang bermain biola. Jadi, dia memperlahankan langkahnya, dan berhenti selama beberapa saat, dan kemudian bergegas untuk memenuhi jadual.
Beberapa minit kemudian, pemain biola tersebut menerima dolarnya yang pertama: seorang wanita telah melemparkan wang ke dalam bekas biola tanpa berhenti, dan terus berjalan.
Beberapa minit kemudian, seseorang lelaki telah bersandar pada dinding untuk mendengarnya, kemudian lelaki itu melihat jam tangannya dan mula berjalan semula. Jelas sekali beliau telah terlambat untuk ke tempat kerja.
Orang yang paling banyak memberikan perhatian, adalah budak lelaki yang berusia 3 tahun. Ibunya yang memegang beliau, tergesa-gesa, tetapi kanak-kanak itu telah berhenti untuk melihat tukang biola. Akhirnya, ibunya terpaksa menarik dengan keras, dan kanak-kanak itu terus berjalan, tetapi memalingkan mukanya sepanjang masa untuk melihat pemain biola tersebut.
Tindakan ini telah diulangi oleh beberapa kanak-kanak yang lain. Semua ibu bapa, tanpa pengecualian, memaksa anak mereka untuk bergerak. Dalam masa 45 minit muzik dimainkan, hanya 6 orang yang berhenti dan tinggal buat sementara waktu. Kira-kira 20 orang memberinya wang, tetapi terus berjalan seperti biasa.
Wang yang berjaya dikumpul, $32. Setelah beliau selesai bermain, suasana menjadi sunyi semula, tiada siapa yang perasan. Tiada siapa yang bertepuk tangan dan tidak ada sebarang pengiktirafan.
Tetapi, tiada siapa yang tahu, pemain biola itu ialah Joshua Bell, salah seorang pemuzik yang paling berbakat di dunia. Dia baru sahaja memainkan salah satu muzik yang paling rumit yang pernah ditulis, menggunakan biola yang bernilai $ 3.5 juta dolar. Dua hari sebelum bermain di stesyen keretapi bawah tanah tersebut. Tiket untuk konsert Joshua Bell di teater Boston yang berharga $100 sekeping telah habis dijual.
Ini adalah cerita sebenar. Joshua Bell telah menyamar dan bermain di stesen metro anjuran Washington Post sebagai sebahagian daripada eksperimen sosial tentang persepsi, rasa, dan keutamaan orang.
Salah satu kesimpulan yang didapati dari pengalaman ini: Jika kita tidak mempunyai masa untuk berhenti dan mendengar salah satu daripada pemuzik terbaik di dunia yang sedang bermain muzik terbaik yang pernah ditulis, kemungkinan, berapa banyakkah perkara-perkara hebat lain yang telah kita terlepas?
